Gamification of PharmD classes. Create "Pharmacy Go".
We are looking for a group of students that want to tackle the creating of a study game for PharmD students. The team will design a multiple level “game” (similar to old-school Pokémon). The game has a central hospital surrounded by four levels. In each level, players (students) will be exposed to random questions of PharmD knowledge for PHAR736. Once they collect 10 coins (10 correct answers) they will be allowed to enter the level's clinic where they will have to “treat” a patient. Once they beat level 1, they can move to level 2 until they beat level 4. At that point they will enter a central hospital where they will treat a variety of patients using the conditions, drugs, and symptoms they learned int he class and initial levels. There can be a bonus level filled with poisonous plants and mushrooms that have to be treated with the drugs they learned in the course. We plan to deploy this game during the Spring 2025 term with PharmD students.
Objectives
- 4 random mazes/cities with two things. Random spawning “enemies” and a random spawned but stationary final "clinic".
- The 4 mazes will have question banks associated with them. Students must be given random questions but not see the same question until all questions have been exhausted.
- A hospital (final level) with rooms that contain patients.
- This is envisioned to be in the style of Zelda or Pokémon (Gameboy aesthetic).
- Stretch goal: AI interface for more lifelike patients.
Motivations
We want to help our PharmD students better interact with the material and get more practice with the material. Our ultimate goal is to make this a product to sell to PharmD students across the US/world.
