E-Commerce Platform with Customizable Pricing Models
We are three OSU graduates building a customizable e-commerce platform that gives vendors full control over pricing. Unlike traditional storefronts, our solution lets users define and import advanced pricing models, which is ideal for novel products that don’t fit flat or tiered pricing. Having worked together on EECS capstone projects before, we’re an experienced, well-coordinated team, and we’re excited to mentor students in developing a system that blends real-world software engineering with creative problem solving.
Objectives
The deliverables for this project include a customizable pricing plugin that integrates with existing e-commerce platforms, beginning with Shopify, to support advanced and flexible pricing models. Users will be able to define and upload their own pricing rules through an import system that supports custom logic. A working prototype will demonstrate the plugin on Shopify storefronts, supported by clear documentation and setup guides for installation, configuration, and future extension. Finally, the project will include an extensibility plan outlining how the plugin can be adapted to additional platforms beyond Shopify.
Motivations
E-commerce platforms often force vendors into rigid, one-size-fits-all pricing models. This creates friction for vendors offering novel products that don’t fit simple flat pricing. Our project addresses this gap by enabling fully customizable pricing logic seamlessly defined by the user. Therefore, businesses gain flexibility to serve their customers better, and customers see pricing that actually reflects value and context. This project allows students to tackle problems in software engineering while contributing to a solution that has clear applicability in modern digital commerce.
