Leveraging AI for Improved Public Transit
Leveraging AI in public transit, especially for buses and light rail, offers exciting opportunities to improve customer satisfaction and support vulnerable populations like the houseless community.
This project will work with engineers, Lane Transit District, and others to use disparate sources of data to find insights that will create better customer satisfaction and increased safety. Stretch goals will be to use AI for predictive analysis purposes.
Objectives
- Scrubbing of data (when necessary) to remove names and other sensitive information, as determined by LTD and other partners
- Integration of various datasets and the necessary standardization to allow analysis
- Utilization of Artificial Intelligence to analyze data
- Production of shareable media with a project summary and key insights gained
Motivations
The motivation behind this project is twofold: to find ways that public transportation rider satisfaction can be increased by analyzing feedback, and to become better prepared for the health and safety of riders during weather events and other environmental events.
If time permits, we will also analyze the maintenance of the vehicles with various datasets (maintenance records, routes, weather) to see if insights can be gained regarding their upkeep.
