4-H Record Books (Year 2)

4-H Record Books is logging and reporting software that tracks a youth’s journey through the 4-H program. It digitizes current handwritten reports to give youth a new, modern approach to record keeping. This software allows youth to log their progress and then automatically generate formatted PDF reports. Record Books allows users to track their 4-H resume and project records. Record Books is a PWA application.

This project is a continuation of a 2023-24 capstone project. This previous project stands as a proof-of-concept and prototype. Requirements for this project will build upon the previous work.

Objectives

The goal of this project would be to have a pilot application at least by the time the expo arrives. Ideally, there will be live user testing by the end of winter or early spring term. This pilot application aims to do the following:

  • Allow users to create and maintain a profile
  • Allow users to actively track and modify items in the 4-H résumé
  • Create PDF reports for the for a résumé
  • Support tracking, logging, and editing logs for all general animal science records
  • Support tracking, logging, and editing of logs for livestock, horse, and small animal records
  • Allow generating PDF reports for animal science records
  • Have visualizations for spending and trends for projects
  • The application is a PWA and works on all screen sizes

Motivations

This project will directly impact youth within 4-H in Oregon. The current record-keeping process for 4-H requires much effort and is not always straightforward. This project will help youth ages 9 to 18 learn to track records better, view more information about their projects, and keep a living résumé to help them in future endeavors.
