CaliDrone - A Drone used to Calibrate 3D Volume

For Robotics, Virtual Reality Productions and more we have large 3D volumes

To precisely track Robots or Drones we need to first Calibrate the Cameras so that moving objects can be tracked precisely

Calibration is the key and is the basis for tracking all other objects in 3D space accurately

Objectives


Fly a Drone in a 3D Volume, (3D Space is provided by Optitrack in Corvallis or OSU 3D Volume may be used)

The Drone should carry a Calibration Rod, it is about 150 - 250 grams

Fly in pre-determined path, called the Trajectory

The Trajectory is recorded in Motive software, this is provided by Optitack software

Only flight paths have to be recorded and repeated

Motivations


In any 3D Space we need to be able to precisely track robots and drones

The first thing to do is Calibrate all the Cameras, it is a cumbersome process to do it manually, in big 3D spaces such as the Sphere in Las Vegas, or Factory floors not all spaces are reachable by humans, it can be done by flying drones recoding the trajectory and repeating the process whenever calibration is needed.

This is Automation for Calibration using a Drone.
