Nat. Forest Service: Ops Normal - Initial Attack
Contribute to improving the suppression of wildfires! Ops Normal is a mobile application that enables wildland firefighters to draft equipment estimates for the initial attack upon wildfires. The codebase is in Flutter, uses SQLite, and is open source. Your goal will be to get the app back out into the field, in the hands of real wildland firefighters.
Objectives
The codebase has been in development for two years now, but the previous team did not complete the migration of the schema and a large refactoring. The goal is to get the app's features back to a usable state, and for real wildland firefighters to be using the app in the field.
Motivations
In partnership with the National Forest Service, and Professor Yong Bakos at OSU Cascades in Bend, OR, the goal of the app is to normalize and speed up the initial attack upon wildland firefighters. Better tools == better fire suppression.
