Vehicle Energy Harvesting (ENGR 415, 1-2 students needed)

ConMet has formed ConMet eMobility, a new business unit dedicated to providing transformative technologies for an era of alternative power. This new business will enable the development of zero-emission commercial vehicles, helping fleets exceed Corporate Social Responsibility goals while striking the right balance between improved fuel economy, reduced emissions, and performance.

Objectives

Design, fabricate and test a proof-of-concept linear energy generation mechanism (similar to a wave energy buoy) to work in parallel with the tractor cab suspension system. Our initial project will begin with investigating the relative movement between the Chassis (frame rail) and the Cab of a Class 8 Commercial Tractor. See link for related information: https://conmet.com/innovation/emobility/

Motivations

As part of our eMobility efforts at ConMet we are looking to developing new energy harvesting devices to be applied on commercial vehicles/trailers. The project focus is to find ways to extract energy that minimize any parasite loss or drag on the inherit system (tractor-trailer).
