Youth for earthwin
Earthwin = Duolingo for student sustainability projects: See video Gamified STEAM educational app - EarthWin™ / https://youtu.be/2ZjbMm8U2Vk
We are a non-profit based in Bend, OR looking for a team of CS students to build a UX/UI designed MVP web application to run on Hubspot. Using Salesforce, they will build a database to perform: Participant Data files, Associations/Referral links for multi-level rewards, Triggered emails and notifications, populate student and school dashboard metrics.
In this project, the CS Capstone team will participate with a Design Think Team led by https://innovate4ed.org/ to evaluate user needs and obstacles (grades 6-12/mostly female). This will help us understand how game technology can help students to lead, create, fund and execute meaningful projects with environmental impacts while learning STEAM principals. Specifically, Capstone students will be working on creating elements of a gamified sustainability system.
Students should show an interest in game development, game terminology, gamification of education and token reward systems. Students should have some knowledge of gaming platforms, developing environments, achievement and merit rewards for incremental progress,
Objectives
In partnership with The High Desert Education Service District, i4education and Bend Lapine Schools, CS Team will participate in Design Think.
-To identify obstacles in the student-driven process
-To identify the best platform for building an MVP
-To create a beta test and set standards in which to measure success in partnership with BLS.
-To build the MVP
Motivations
First and foremost: CS students are a perfect fit and most suited to advise us. They have most recently been exactly in the center of our proposed user base.
Second: Intentional Game Design is super fun. Our youth turn to games for neural stimulation with real-time feedback. Interesting graphics, language, motion and token rewards stimulate engagement and motivates them to unlock achievement stages. Students get rewards for participation, completing learning stages, implementation, budgeting, fundraising, sharing and more.
Third: Today, students have higher information absorption rates than ever. They want to drive their own experience and are too often, held up and let down by outdated programs and obstacles. We need to figure out how to get out of their way and create a clear path to success. CS students are in the center of this dynamic. How to learn, while creating real world applications.
