Super Accurate Custom Timer - EJ23 - ECE342-W24

Our project's aim was to create a safe, portable, accurate, and intuitive custom timer that allows users to manipulate 3 different brightness levels, select display columns, and adjust time increments. The timer is presented on a 6-segment display which has a range between 00:00:00 and 59:59:99. Once the timer reaches 00:00:00, the speaker will emit a beeping noise at 440 Hz +/- 1 Hz to let the user know that the countdown has finished. The user will also be able to pause the timer, increment/decrement the time, and then resume. Notably, the system displays time in milliseconds, offering precision timing for various applications. Also, the project relies on a 9V battery, which means that it is portable and can be used almost anywhere. Key technologies include Arduino UNO programming for microcontroller functionality and custom PCB design through KiCad for compact and efficient enclosure configuration. The most notable accomplishment of the project involved achieving millisecond precision timing. Future improvements could include implementing a 7-segment display with more digits for better user accessibility, or implementation of the display onto the PCB for a more compact and clean design. Overall, the project demonstrates a successful integration of hardware and software to create a versatile, portable, and accurate timer system.
