2-Axis SCARA Robtics Arm 08-ECE342-W23

This project aims to develop a robotic arm capable of drawing on 8.5" x 11" paper, which is expected to be used for drawing tasks in multiple scenarios, such as schools, offices and art studios. The system will have the ability to handle various drawing needs, such as precise drawing of graphics, high-speed operation and adapting to a variety of writing tools. Key technologies include embedded design, control systems and the application of Python scripts. The embedded design enables the robotic arm to perform high-precision automatic operation, and the control system will realize the precise control of the robotic arm through Python scripts. The system will draw at a speed of 4 inches per second to meet the demand for fast drawing. At the same time, the drawing accuracy is also very high, and a straight line of 10 inches can be drawn in each direction with an error of no more than 0.25 inches. This is thanks to our SCARA robotic arm topology, and the precise control of the two rotary joints. Notable achievements of this project include the successful construction of a fast and accurate robotic arm mapping system capable of meeting various mapping needs in a variety of scenarios. The main challenge is how to make the system low cost and easy to manufacture while maintaining high plotting speed and accuracy. The direction of future improvement mainly focuses on improving the usability of the system, such as adding the "copy" function, so that most users can quickly identify the target drawing from a set of source drawings.
