The Bird Brain - ECE342-W21 - Group 16

The Bird Brain is a Smart Chicken Coop that enables users to obtain insightful observability of their chicken coop wherever they may be. The Bird Brain utilizes an array of sensors to actively monitor the environment with fields such as temperature, daylight presence, and food/water resources and actively acts upon that data. For example, the decrease of temperature and daylight presence automatically triggers tools such as a heat lamp and a warning light indicator to keep the chickens warm and the water defrosted while allowing the caretaker to have an awareness of what cautions need to be noted about their chicken coop system. Additionally, all of the environmental data that is obtained by the coop is automatically aggregated and published over the internet to a dashboard. This dashboard generates graphs upon the received data to allow for a comprehensive overview of how the chicken coop is behaving. The coop is also time-aware, allowing for automated and synchronized actions such as the opening and closing of the coop door at precise times and the actuation of a heat lamp during the evenings. The main challenges in implementing this system was the inability to collaborate in person due to the pandemic. Integration of each of the individual blocks proved to be challenging, and combining individual code implementations was difficult as well. However, our group was able to meet each of the project goals that were set for this project and were proud of the end product of system.
