Multi-Effect Pedal

The Multi-Effect Pedal is a system that takes in an audio signal, applies an effect to it, and outputs the altered signal. The intended usage of the system is for guitar players to have multiple electric guitar effects in one succinct package on stage or in the garage. The system has iconic effects that most musicians would appreciate and comes in a sturdy enclosure good enough for playing gigs. With the help of an LM386 OpAmp the distortion effect will amplify and hard clip the guitar signal. The system also has an Arduino powered delay effect that will delay the output of the audio signal at several customizable intervals. The system lastly contains a chromatic tuner with LCD Display for tuning a guitar to the standard guitar notes EADGBE. When the system is not active it allows the audio input signal to pass straight through to the output, providing true bypass. While working on the pedal, the team was able to successfully alter the audio signals to create not only functional effects, but ones that sound good. The team's main challenges came from the delay effect and trying to configure it in a way that would conserve memory on the microcontroller. As well as trying to get it to output a signal that sounds good while relying on the Pulse Width Modulation of the controller. The team also had some difficulty fitting all of these different effects into one enclosure, the cramped confines of the box proved cumbersome when troubleshooting poor connections and noisy signals. In the future we would recommend having a second stage of block synthesis, reusing as much circuitry as possible to consolidate the wiring. We would also recommend using a slightly deeper enclosure to allow room for the wiring to breathe.
