The Smart Water Flow Sensor project is our solution aimed at addressing the issue of water waste in households by effectively monitoring water usage in the building's pipes. To provide users with convenient access to the water consumption data, the project incorporates an LCD screen that displays the information in near real-time. Additionally, a dedicated port in the local network's router has been assigned to allow users to easily monitor their daily water consumption and current water flow in real-time. Our project uses several interconnected components, including a water flow sensor, Arduino Uno microcontroller, ESP8266 transceiver, a custom 3D printed enclosure, and a custom power supply. The most notable accomplishments are our custom PCB designs for the power supply and main board, in addition to the Wi-Fi connectivity that allows for wireless communication. Some areas of improvement would be increasing wireless accessibility to allow the owner of the system to connect from any network and access the data stored.

Name Description
Bill of Materials This document shows a spreadsheet of each component required to build the system in its entirety. This includes a designed and manufactured PCB for the system and power supply, the enclosure and all of the input and output components of the system.   Download
Schematic This schematic was designed in KiCad for the system components. This excludes the power supply of the system which remained on its own dedicated PCB.   Download
PCB Design This schematic of the KiCad PCB design was used to show the component footprints and how they would be orientated. This went through many revisions and was coordinated with the 3D modeling process in order to create a system that would suit each other.   Download
Project Document This document provides the executive summary that describes the project, highlights, key points, lessons learned, and possible improvements that could be implemented in later revisions. The document also displays the final project overview of the working device during the final stages of the project. Some important information in this document is the interface definitions, bill of materials, mechanical drawings, schematics, PCB design, enclosure design, remote server information, online database information, and software design. Finally, the document also includes video evidence links that show the fulfillment of the customer and engineering requirements for the project.   Download
Executive Summary This document provides the executive summary that describes the project, highlights, key points, timeline, lessons learned, and possible improvements that could be implemented in later revisions.   Download
Enclosure This file includes the system's enclosure. It is saved as an STL, which allows for viewing with multiple 3D design software and slicers.   Download
Project Summary Video This video gives a brief overview of what the initiative is, our solution, and how it works. There is also a demo clip, some lessons learned, and recommendations for future improvement.   Link
