Integrated Environmental Sensor

Embedded Systems
Sustainability

This integrated environmental sensor array is intended to be used to gather data on biodynamic and organic farming in Thailand. Collecting this information on these practices is critical for learning the environmental impacts of these farming practices. We chose to use a modern stack of technology for this project’s implementation including multiple microcontrollers, a database, and web front-end. Our project’s main communication method is the cellular LTE network. Cellular is used to communicate sensor data to the backend database. All of the current and past sensor data is available to the user through a beautiful graphical interface. We are proud to have accomplished the construction and testing of our project during COVID. We were challenged most by the distributed nature of our construction. We were unable to come together to fully integrate our project, so we chose to use the internet to pass data between different distributed components of our system. In the future, we would love to see our project fully integrated and delivered to farmers in Thailand.
