The purpose of this project is to create a fail-safe device that is capable of turning on or off the main power on remote unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs). Currently, once the on-board system is turned off it has no way to turn itself back on. Our project will provide the user with the ability to remotely stop, start, reboot, or even send commands through an external module. The proposed system will be used to monitor our next generation of robotic surface vessels that will be involved in missions to Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. This system will need to function when the UAV has only a satellite connection. Care will be taken to identify and mitigate as many risks as possible and extensive testing will need to be done both for performance and for ruggedness of design.
