E Squared Timer Counter ECE342-W23
By
This is an eight-digit seven segment display that is capable of counting down from 1 second to 24 hours, this system can be programmed using two buttons, started and stopped by one button and reset by another. When the countdown timer is done it sounds a 440 Hz tone from a small onboard speaker. all contained in compact package. This timer is unique as it is only one designed here that is capable of counting down from 24 hours instead of one, ours also features an eight-digit seven segment display so we not only can display, hours, minutes and seconds, but also tenths of seconds. Our display has a three-step variable brightness, going from a very dim to very bright setting. The tone is also very loud given the speaker was on it. Enclosure design is unique, compact, and eco-friendly, but it got the job the done of contain all the necessary hardware, including an Arduino Mega 2650 which was used for power and processing of inputs and outputs. Our major accomplishment was completing this project and doing as well as we did, we had issue with four digit display we were going to with pretty late in the design and had switch back to eight digit display fairly late in the term, which required a recode and redesign of basically our project, it basically got working in finals hours of the term. One of main challenges and areas for improvement was time management because 10-week term seems like it would be a lot of time, but without everything else going on, suddenly its week 8 or 9 and it feels like a rush to get everything done. Part of time management was making time even with our outside obligations.
