Touch-free Thermosensor - Team 6 - ECE 342-Sp21

For our project, we designed and completed a non-contact temperature scanner. The scanner is capable of measuring a person’s body temperature without necessitating touch, instead only requiring the person to be in range of the sensor. The main sensor used in our design is a MLX90614 infrared thermometer. The system also incorporates a display that shows instructions on how to use the device, as well as the user’s body temperature after being measured, and will give an alarm noise if the user’s temperature is over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The system keeps track of all temperature measurements made over the last 24 hours. Throughout the course of this project, our team learned many valuable skills. A key requirement was planning ahead. All materials used in the design had to be ordered individually, so we had to ensure that this was done with enough time for each item to be delivered before each successive due date. This includes designing and ordering a PCB which we used to interface several different components of the overall system. Writing touch display firmware driver, SD storage data logging and integrating all sensor module codes were the challenging parts of this project and considerable accomplishments. The area of future development will be designing the system to detect human body temperature at a larger distance (greater than 6ft) but with ± 1°F accuracy.
