The aim of this project is to establish a practical test setup for evaluating the switching characteristics of Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs. Semiconductor companies commonly employ the Double Pulse Test (DPT) to assess the switching behavior and efficiency of SiC MOSFETs. However, SiC MOSFETs may demonstrate significantly different traits in real-world applications compared to the specifications provided in datasheets. Global Formula Racing (GFR) has been working on a Custom Inverter for their electric race car, designed to convert 600VDC input into 360VAC output to drive four PMSM electric motors. To accurately observe and characterize the behavior of the SiC MOSFETs selected for the inverter, James Ewing has developed three DPT test boards, each tailored to a specific SiC MOSFET footprint. These test boards enable GFR to meticulously assess the behavior of the chosen SiC MOSFETs for the Custom Inverter, facilitating the creation of a more efficient design.
