ECE441-robot vacuum cleaner

our project is about Creation of an auto vacuum robot that can clean the floors of a shop environment is the main aim of this project. The robots that are currently in the market such as the well-known Roomba, are to either too large, expensive or are not well equipped to handle the needs of a shop environment while having the capacity and battery life to clean a large space. The creation is for Mr. Don Heer, a woodworking enthusiast whose problem is the excess saws dust building up in his shop. All other vacuum robots he purchased were not powerful enough to handle his shop environment. The project will take around nine months or the equivalent of one academic year at Oregon State. This creation will be carried out as a design project of ten students a requirement for their graduation. The students will be seniors either in ECE or CS majors, providing the right mix of skill set for the development of the robot. The project will be done in three main phases; design, assembly and testing and display. The design phase will entail working closely with Don in order to meet his requirements for the project. The next phase assembly and testing, will involve buying, assembly and testing our system as parts and also as the complete final robot. Completing the project will be demonstrating our work to our sponsor and also our fellow students and professors at the Senior Design Expo. The final result will hopefully be a new reliable and long lasting robot that meet the needs of Mr. Don. The new robot will provide him with a healthy and efficient working environment. The student design team who create the robot will gain experience working as a team an attribute very useful in the industry. The creation will also display their skills and hopefully help them get employment.
