Problem Solving

This bike light system was created to improve riders safety on the road. The system should make signaling turns and sharing the road with drivers easier for bikers. Our bike light includes two unique features: an automatic white light and a rechargeable battery . The white light automatically turns on based on a light sensor reading which can tell when its dark outside. The rechargeable battery can be charged with a USB-c and lasts at least 2 hours when the system is fully on. In addition, our system has button activated turn signals that turn off within 15ft of a turn, a brake light that linearly adjusts brightness based on deceleration speed, and our system can withstand a 3ft drop. Our most notable success was with the compartmentalized nature of our project into two smaller enclosures that do not interfere with the rider. However our biggest challenge was implementing the accelerometer to read in values for our brake light that increased in frequency and brightness as the rider slowed down. In the future our group would design a better placement or separation of our push buttons for riders to signal a left or right turn easier and more efficiently.
