Contact-Free Thermometer (01) ECE342-Sp21

The purpose of this project is to offer a contact free thermometer that is able to detect if a user has a fever and alert them without the user ever having to touch the thermometer. A few key components of this project include the mlx90614 IR temperature sensor that we used allowing us to take accurate temperature readings. We also implemented a DS3231 Real Time Clock into our project so that we could keep track of the date and time that users were taking their temperatures. To keep the user from having to touch the enclosure to operate the thermometer we also implemented an RFID module that can scan a user's ID card from over a centimeter away from the device. One of the accomplishments we made with this project was being able to design both a custom PCB and a custom enclosure that worked great with only minor modifications. One area that we struggled in was getting the user data to store properly onto our SD card, but after a lot of debugging we were able to get the SD card module and it's code to work as intended. In the future we would like to incorporate a battery pack to keep the system powered if the power goes out as well as improve the user interface so that old user data can be retrieved directly from the device instead of being pulled from an SD card.
