Pilot Health Monitoring System

The pilot health monitoring system is designed to monitor a pilot’s health as they fly an aircraft. The goal of this system is to identify any issues with the pilot’s health as they come up during flight. These problems would then be relayed to the ground (Air Control) and the copilot. In the case of the pilot flying alone, the system would trigger an autopilot to take over the flight controls. The pilot health monitoring system uses optical sensors to monitor the heart rate and the blood oxygen levels of the pilot. The most difficult part of this project was creating a system that could accurately collect biometric data and not bother the pilot as they fly the aircraft, this was accomplished by building a system that sits on the pilot’s wrist much like a watch, it has no wires and does not interfere with the pilot’s ability to control the aircraft. Future areas of improvement would include expanding the systems biometric data collection capabilities, and allowing the system to control the autopilot of the aircraft.
