Our team is working on the HyperRail, which is a motion control system developed for agricultural sensing of large areas, for the OPEnS Lab at OSU. We are developing it with 3 axis movement, similar to a typical 3D printer movement system, but on a larger scale to accommodate larger agricultural areas. Key requirements for our team were making the system both fast and accurate, using existing OPEnS lab hardware, creating a robust tool changing system, and controlling the system using G-code sent wirelessly via wi-fi. With these requirements, we can create a system that integrates seamlessly with with existing OPEnS lab system to create a gantry system that is both easy to use, and extremely robust, as the system could be used for many future tasks such as imaging, RFID scanning, image processing, and automated greenhouse sensing and plant care. All of this can be done remotely over the OSU network, without even needing to enter the OPEnS lab.
