The goal of this project is to create an energy efficient electro-optical modulator, one of the fundamental components of an integrated photonic circuit. By increasing the energy efficiency of the process required to flip a bit in a photonic circuit, we aim to greatly reduce the data storage costs of large scale organizations like Google, Dropbox, Facebook, and more. This project will be done entirely in simulation software due to time and fabrication cost constraints. The team aims to manipulate the energy efficiency by altering the dimensions of a micro disk type electro-optical modulator.
