Are you interested in participating in a pre-conference excursion? The area near Portland is rich with natural beauty, and we offer two excursions on Monday, June 17.

Columbia Gorge waterfalls visit and hike

We will visit 1-2 waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge, and do 1-2 hikes. The default choice is to visit Multnomah Falls, and hike to the top of the falls. However, alternative destinations are possible, depending on the interest of participants. The cost of this excursion is $20, plus lunch expenses. The $20 fee covers transportation from Portland (in/near downtown) to Gorge destination(s) and back. Note that this will not not be a guided tour, but it will be led by local volunteers who want to share their love of the Gorge with CGWeek participants. The excursion will take up most of the day on Monday, June 17, 2019 (10 AM to around 5 PM).

If you are attending the Columbia Gorge waterfalls visit and hike be at the University Place Hotel (the conference hotel) Lobby at 9:45AM. The plan is to start driving to the destination at 10AM

Willamette Valley wine-tasting tour

The Willamette Valley is home to many beautiful vineyards, producing first-rank wines. The climate is similar to that in the Burgundy wine-producing region of France, and, like Burgundy, the region produces delicious, distinctive pinot noirs. We have selected a commercial tour, provided by Sea to Summit. Their fee, including transportation to/from the wine country and tasting fees at three or four wineries, is $139 (+ $8.34 taxes/fees). Because this is a commercial tour, we ask interested participants to sign up at the Sea to Summit website.
